Kjell Svensson began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown at Södertälje SK , for whose professional team he was active from 1954 to 1959 in Division 1 , which was then the highest Swedish league. In the 1955/56 season he won the national championship with his team . The goalkeeper then spent the 1959/60 season at Tabergs SK in Division 2 , before he stood between the posts for AIK Solna in Division 1 for another two seasons . From 1962 until the end of his career in 1969, he ran again for his hometown club Södertälje SK.
International
For Sweden Svensson took part in the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley and 1964 in Innsbruck . At the 1964 Winter Games, he and his team won the silver medal. He was also in his country's squad at the 1962 , 1963 , 1965 and 1967 World Cups . At the 1965 World Cup he and his team won the bronze medal, and the silver medal at the 1963 and 1967 World Championships. At the 1962 World Cup, Svensson won the gold medal with Sweden. As the best European team, the team also became European champions.
