Kjersti Stenseng (born September 4, 1974 in Nord-Fron ) is a Norwegian politician of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). Since 2015 she has been Secretary General of the Ap.

Political career

Stenseng was a member of the local parliament of Sør-Fron between 2007 and 2011 . From January to August 2010 she worked as a political advisor in the Ministry of Culture. On May 15, 2012, she was appointed State Secretary in this ministry, which she remained until September 30, 2013.

In the legislative period from 2013 to 2017, Stenseng was the so-called Vararepresentantin in the Norwegian parliament, the Storting . As such, she represented the then Minister Rigmor Aasrud from October 1st to 16th . Before the parliamentary elections in 2013 , she had lost the fighting candidacy for third place on the electoral list in the province of Oppland . This would have given her a permanent place in parliament.

From 2010 to 2014 she was the chairman of her party in Oppland and from 2011 a member of the state party executive. On April 18, 2015, she was appointed general secretary of her party at the state party conference. She has held this post since then.

Private

Her father is the politician and former mayor of the municipality of Nord-Fron, Gunnar Tore Stenseng. In February 2019, he said that it was necessary to replace Jonas Gahr Støre as Ap chairman as soon as possible. Kjersti Stenseng reacted to this suggestion with incomprehension. Her life partner is the politician, sports official and former handball player Tore Tvedt .
