The kkStB 71 was a series of freight train - Tender locomotives of kkStB , originally from the Railway Pilsen-Billed (-Komotau) came (EPPK).

Due to the topographical conditions in freight traffic, the EPPK very soon had to switch to quadruple coupled locomotives. The eight machines were supplied by the Floridsdorf locomotive factory in 1876 (six pieces) and by the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik in 1881 (two pieces). After 1888 they were refurbished. The table shows the dimensions of the new boiler.

After nationalization in 1884, the kkStB classified the machines as number  71 .

After the First World War , six locomotives of this series came to ČSD as series  401.1 , the rest came to the PKP under the old designation . ČSD withdrew its machines until 1950.
