Klara Butting

Klara Butting (* 1959 in Wittingen ) is a German Protestant theologian , university teacher and author .

Life

After her school days in Hankensbüttel , Klara Butting studied Protestant theology in Göttingen , Heidelberg and Berlin.

In 1993 she did her doctorate in Amsterdam with a dissertation on inner-biblical criticism as a guide to feminist hermeneutics. In the same year she was ordained as pastor of the Hanover regional church and since then has had half a parish parish in Oldenstadt (parish of Uelzen). In 2001 Klara Butting completed her habilitation with a thesis on female prophets in the Bible. From 2003 to 2008 she was a student pastor at the University of Lüneburg . Since then she has been a freelance theologian and author. She has been an associate professor for Old Testament and Biblical Theology at the University of Bochum since 2010 .

She was involved in translating the Bible in Righteous Language (books by Joel and Esther ).

She is the director of the “Center for Biblical Spirituality and Social Responsibility” at the Woltersburger Mühle near Uelzen and co-editor of the magazine Junge Kirche . Since November 2012 she has been on the board of the Association Bible in Just Language .

Klara Butting is married to the theologian Gerard Minnaard; Both are involved in the Woltersburger Mühle, a place of learning and social center, and on the board of the Erev-Rav association. The name of the association is a quote from the Hebrew Bible and describes the "mixed people" who, according to Exodus 12:38, had joined the Israelites during the Exodus.
