Clare of Montefalco ( Clare of the Cross ; * 1268 in Montefalco , Umbria , †  August 18, 1308 in Montefalco) was a virgin , Augustinian and mystic . She was canonized by the Catholic Church in 1881 .

Life

Clare of Montefalco Beginning at the age of six with another six other women Reklusin under the direction of her sister. The community in Montefalco was converted into an Augustinian convent in 1290. In 1291 Klara succeeded her sister in the office of abbess . From 1294 Sr. Klara had mystical experiences and visions . In these the suffering Christ appeared to her, which is why Clare was subsequently given the nickname of the cross . She had the gift of discerning spirits .

From 1303 Clare of Montefalco began to build a church for the city of Montefalco. Sr. Klara died on August 18, 1308. Ten days after her death, her chest was opened and her stigmatized heart was found. Klara's incorruptible body is in the Augustinian convent of Montefalco.

Clare of Montefalco was on April 13, 1737 by Pope Clement XII. beatified and on December 8, 1881 by Pope Leo XIII. canonized .

Her feast day is August 17th . The own festival Impressio Crucifixi in corde s addresses the stigmatization of the deceased . Clarae of the Augustinian order returned on October 30th .
