Poor Clares Church (Bratislava)
The Poor Clares Church (Slov. Kostol klarisiek , Klariský kostol ) is a church in the Slovak capital, Bratislava . It belongs to the complex of the Convent of the Poor Clares in the old town .
history
The Cistercian Sisters , who founded a monastery in Bratislava in 1232, adopted the rule of the Poor Clares in 1297 and built a church and a monastery with the support of the king in the 14th century. In 1782 the Poor Clare Monastery was closed; the church became the seat of the legal academy and the grammar school . Today it is used as a concert and theater hall as well as for exhibitions.
Appearance
The Klarissenkirche is a hall church in the Gothic style . A prism-shaped tower was added in the 15th century. The main and side altars from the 18th century have been preserved, as is the preacher's stand .
