Klaus-Michael Hubertus Günther Braumann (born November 26, 1949 ) is a German sports and general practitioner.

career

Braumann studied at the Hannover Medical School between 1969 and 1975 . From 1977 he worked as a research assistant at the same university and at the Großburgwedel Hospital in sports physiology, trauma surgery and cardiology. From 1983 to 1989 he worked as a senior physician in the sports medicine center at the Hannover Medical School. In 1986 Braumann became a general practitioner.

1987/88 Braumann was team doctor for the soccer team of Hannover 96 , at the Universiaden in 1983, 1987 and 1989 he worked as team doctor for the German teams. He was a member of the medical staff of the German national swimming and water polo teams at the 1987 European Championship, the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 1990 World Championships. From 1989 he looked after teams in top-class sports, including the Bundesliga soccer team Hamburger SV and FC St. Pauli, as part of performance medical care measures Hamburg Bundesliga hockey teams.

Between 1989 and 1993 he headed the department for sports and performance medicine at the Olympic training center in Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein . In 1993 Braumann took up a professorship for sports medicine at the University of Hamburg . He was chairman of the Hamburg Sports Medical Association before becoming honorary chairman.

Between 1997 and 2014 he was dean of the sports science department at the University of Hamburg, and in 2015 he became dean of the department of psychology and movement science at the same university. He retired at the end of March 2018.

In 2012 Braumann became President of the German Society for Sports Medicine and Prevention (DGSP), and in 1997 he took over the chairmanship of the DGSP Competitive Sport section. In March 2019 he resigned as DGSP President and was appointed Honorary President. He served as co-editor of the official journal of the DGSP, the "German Journal for Sports Medicine". In May 2018 he was elected Deputy Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Institute for Sport Science (BISp), while at the same time he was responsible for the areas of medicine and biology on the committee. Another activity was added in September 2018: Braumann became a member of the Executive Committee of the World Sports Medicine Federation " Fédération Internationale de Médecine du Sport " (FIMS).

Braumann's scientific work focuses on studies and work on the subjects of "performance-physiological studies of muscle metabolism", overtraining and overload symptoms, measurement and trainability of proprioceptive abilities, spiroergometry in swimmers as well as exercise-therapeutic aspects of people with heart failure , high blood pressure and overweight, among others .

Braumann also became known through media appearances such as on NDR television or in programs on Deutsche Welle .

In addition to scientific works, he published several guides on doing sports, such as the book “How do I stay fit”, published in 2017, and “The healing power of movement”, which came out in 2015.
