Klaus Baumgart (Author)

Klaus Baumgart (* 1951 in Salzgitter ) is a German author and university professor.

In 1996 the picture book Lauras Stern appeared , which was translated into several languages.

With over four million books sold, Baumgart is one of the most successful picture book artists internationally and has received numerous prizes and awards. In 1999 he was nominated as the first German author for the English Children's Book Award . Two of his book series, Lauras Stern and Tobi , have since been filmed.

Life

At 16 he left his parents' home in Seesen, worked as a taxi driver, waiter and lithographer and also lived in Nepal and India for a year . In the 1980s he studied visual communication at the University of Arts in Berlin . He then worked temporarily in advertising agencies and published his first picture books. In the meantime, Klaus Baumgart works as an author and graphic artist. From 2002 until his retirement in 2017, he was professor for visual design, 2-D design and illustration in the communication design course at the Berlin University of Technology and Economics . Klaus Baumgart now lives in Berlin in the Kreuzberg district.
