Klaus Demus

Klaus Demus (born May 30, 1927 in Vienna ) is an Austrian art historian and poet .

Life

Paul Celan named Demus his only friend in 1951, to whom he also dedicated his poem "The Jugs", as well as him and his wife Nani Demus the poem "The Vintners". Demus, who was also friends with Ingeborg Bachmann , writes pantheistic nature poetry. His work follows the line of tradition from Pindar and Friedrich Hölderlin to Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Rudolf Borchardt . His work marks a clear opposition to the pessimism and nihilism of language in modern poetry. In 1958 Klaus Demus received the sponsorship award from the Kulturkreis der Wirtschaft in the Federation of German Industries

Until 1987 Demus worked as curator at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna .

His brother was the pianist Jörg Demus .
