Klaus Gondesen

Klaus Gondesen (born June 7, 1925 , † November 2001 in Berlin ) was a German police officer in the GDR . He was major general and head of the protective police at the Ministry of the Interior .

Life

After the Second World War, Gondesen became a member of the German People's Police and a member of the SED in the Soviet occupation zone . Gondesen started his career as an officer and in the 1950s acted as head of the VP inspection in Berlin-Mitte with the rank of lieutenant colonel of the VP. In August 1961 he was an officer in the staff of the VP Presidium involved in the construction of the Berlin Wall . His next function was that of the head of the protection and traffic police department in the Berlin police headquarters. In 1965 he was promoted to Colonel VP and deputy head of the Main Department of Protection and Traffic Police in the Ministry of the Interior. From 1966 to 1968 he was acting head of the main department of protection and traffic police in the Ministry of the Interior (MdI) as the successor to Willi Knöpke . On June 23, 1981, he was appointed major general by the chairman of the GDR's National Defense Council , Erich Honecker . Until his retirement in June 1989 he was head of the Institute of the MdI for Marxist-Leninist education and training.

Gondesen then acted as the deputy chairman of the Berlin district committee of the GDR's anti-fascist resistance fighters .

Gondesen last lived in Berlin-Friedrichshain and died at the age of 76.
