Life

Klaus Kieper, who studied engineering , co-founded the first organization in the GDR in 1964 that was devoted to systematic research into railway history (Arbeitsgemeinschaft 1/11 "Kleinbahnfreunde" in the German Model Railway Association). Under his aegis, newsletters appeared, from which the traffic history sheets emerged . Klaus Kieper published several books, in particular on narrow-gauge railways in the GDR, to which he also contributed "excellent photographic work". The narrow-gauge railway archive, first published in 1980, which documented all 72 narrow-gauge public transport railways in the area of the former GDR, is still considered an “indispensable reference work” today. The work also appeared in a licensed edition in the Federal Republic and was reprinted in 2011. After difficulties in obtaining paper for the GDR editions could be overcome, the book sold more than 25,000 times.

Kieper lived in Ahrensfelde . In 2005 he received the congregation's badge of honor.
