Reiner Preuß (born February 26, 1940 in Zittau ; † July 19, 2014 ) was a German railway engineer , non-fiction and specialist book author . Numerous works originate from him, especially about narrow-gauge railways .

Life

Reiner Preuss spent most of his professional life with the Deutsche Reichsbahn . There he completed an apprenticeship as a railroad worker from 1954 to 1956 and then worked in various jobs in the works service until 1961 . From 1962 to 1965, a technical college studies followed, graduating with a degree in engineering for railway transport and -betriebstechnik. Reiner Preuß then worked for the Deutsche Reichsbahn as a service supervisor at train stations as well as in the course of IT project planning.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall , he worked as a consultant for information technology from 1991 to 2004 .

As an author, he has published on topics of rail transport and rail history in several magazines and numerous books since 1960. He wrote several of these specialist books together with his twin brother Erich . While initially concentrating on various East German narrow-gauge railways , he later worked on the history of the Deutsche Reichsbahn together with his brother. This resulted in the books Die Chronik der Deutschen Reichsbahn 1945–1993. Railway in the GDR (2009) and Deutsche Reichsbahn internally. Secret files, explosive facts (2011).

Reiner Preuss has published most of his books with Transpress Verlag and GeraMond Verlag , both leading German-language publishers for specialist publications on the subject of railways, as well as transport history and technology.

Reiner Preuß lived in Berlin since 1968 .
