Klaus Knauer (born September 13, 1949 ) is a former German speed skater .

career

Knauer, who measures 1.64 meters, played ice hockey at SC Einheit Dresden and was part of the extended squad of the GDR national team before he achieved rapid performance in speed skating in the early 1970s and in 1974 made it to the top of the world over the 500-meter route.

Knauer won gold at the speed skating championships of the German Democratic Republic in 1972 and 1976. In 1973 and 1974 he was GDR champion in the sprint all-around competition. He took part in three world championships.

Knauer completed his studies at the German University of Physical Culture in 1981 with the thesis "Training analysis in the KZA area - speed skating - in relation to KLD results in the course of 1976/77 to 1979/80". Knauer worked as a speed skating trainer, and Jens Boden was one of his protégés .
