Klaus Koenen

Klaus Koenen (* 1956 in Cologne ) is a German Protestant theologian ( Old Testament scholar ).

The son Ludwig Koenens graduated from the Dreikönigsgymnasium in Cologne in 1975 (old language branch) and studied religious studies and Protestant theology in Ann Arbor and Bonn from 1975 to 1982 . In 1982 he passed the ecclesiastical examination at the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland . From 1982 to 1989 he worked as a research assistant in Tübingen and also studied Ancient Near Eastern Studies and Egyptology .

In 1983 he worked on the excavation at Tell el-Oreme . In 1984 he had a scholarship for the teaching course of the German Palestine Association in Israel and Jordan . After receiving his doctorate in 1987 in Tübingen, he was a lecturer at the Ecumenical Institute Tantur near Jerusalem in 1989 and from 1989 to 1995 university assistant in Bonn. After completing his habilitation in Bonn in 1993, he was site manager at Tell el-Oreme in 1994. He was visiting professor in 1995 in Kiel , 1995–1996 in Heidelberg and 1996–1997 in Essen (3 semesters) and 1998–1999 in Heidelberg (3 semesters). In 1999 he was a lecturer at the Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem .

Since 1999 he has been teaching as a professor at the University of Cologne .
