Klaus Loeffler

Klaus Loeffler (born January 20, 1929 in Berlin ; † May 4, 2010 ) was a German veterinarian and university professor.

Life

Loeffler grew up in Königsberg , ended up in the chaos of war in Vienna , where he completed an apprenticeship as a pharmacy laboratory assistant. In Weißenburg in Bavaria he made up his Abitur at the Werner-von-Siemens-Gymnasium and then studied veterinary medicine at the Universities of Munich and Hanover . During his studies in 1949 he became a member of the Teutonia Hanover fraternity . In 1954 he received his license to practice medicine and received his doctorate a year later .

After working at a Hamburg veterinary clinic, he returned to the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover as an assistant, where he completed his habilitation in 1963 . After working at the University of Hohenheim , he was appointed to the chair for anatomy and physiology of domestic animals and head of the animal clinic at the University of Hohenheim in 1971.

Act

Loeffler was characterized by an interdisciplinary activity. He was both an anatomist and a clinician. He researched cruciate ligament ruptures in dogs , hip dysplasia in dogs , and issues related to animal welfare. In total, he wrote over 150 scientific papers.

In 1975 he received the Felix Wankel Animal Welfare Prize and in 1990 the Richard Völker Medal from the German Veterinary Medical Society (DVG).
