Asimov cellar bar satires (SF satires)

Klaus Marion has been writing satires in the German SF Fandom since his youth . Most of his satires are set in the Asimov basement bar , a fictional bar for science fiction fans.
The satires target current issues in the science fiction and science fiction scene and comment on them in the form of fictional reports by the author about the events in the Asimov basement bar. In addition to the fictional characters that appear again and again, real German SF authors and representatives of the German science fiction fan scene are described as fictional guests in the Asimov cellar bar.
Recurring authors in the stories are e.g. B. Horst Hoffmann , Achim Mehnert , Michael Nagula or Arndt Ellmer . The fictional innkeeper Rudolf 'Rudi' Gerstner is the character with whom many topics from the field of current science fiction are satirically led ad absurdum in dialogue. Part of every satire is the casual mention of a special SF drink, the recipes of which are then published as an insert in the satire. Many of the satires appeared in Andromeda Nachrichten , the information magazine of the Science Fiction Club Germany eV, in which Klaus Marion wrote the satirical column Distorting Mirror . The satires are published in the books Tales from the Asimov Cellar Bar and No Room Helmet at the Bar - News from the Asimov Cellar Bar , to which Klaus N. Frick and Horst Hoffman wrote afterwords.

Foresight satires

Marion has published a satire every month in the regional event and culture magazine VorSicht since 1987. Of these satires, which also take up regional and political topics, over 380 satires have been published (as of 2019). In addition to general human weaknesses, the topics dealt with include dealing with current topics and developments. Recurring fictional characters appear in the stories, typically comprising 6,000 to 7,000 attacks. So here too the person of Rudi Gerstner ("Rudi"), who tries again and again to find a professional source of income and tries unsuccessfully with various ideas to do business. A selection of the satires have appeared as books in three anthologies.

Economic satires

Since 2007, the regional medium- sized company magazine Initiativ Marion has published satires on various economic topics as an independent column. The satire's point of view is aimed at small and medium-sized entrepreneurs or managers in companies. A recurring topic is the small business owner's struggle with the adversities of a business world that is based on the world of large companies in terms of legal requirements and ideas. This form of economic satire is unique in Germany. Over 50 stories have now been published by the economic satires. A selection of satires has been published as a book.

writing style

Marion's writing style is less based on a polemical style than on satirical entertainment. In addition to exaggeration in terms of content, means are a linguistically stilted-looking form, as was also typical for the characters of Victor von Bülow alias Loriot or the Israeli satirist Ephraim Kishon . The author focuses on the function of criticism and entertainment, making use of comedy and parody as a stylistic device. He avoids polemics and strives to convey content-related criticism in a conciliatory form. The point of view is bourgeois, the figures of the satires mostly see themselves as better average citizens. The focus of his topics are everyday situations in which the author exposes particularly human weaknesses. Many of Marion's satires are written in the first person.
