Career

Rütten played at 1. FC Viersen in the regional league and one year in the association league. For the 1975/76 season he moved to the Bundesliga club SV Werder Bremen . At Werder, Rütten was used by trainer Herbert Burdenski three times, the first time on the 2nd match day against Eintracht Frankfurt , when Otto Rehhagel took over the position of trainer at the Weser in February 1976, Rütten no longer played a role. Rehhagel relied on defenders like Karl-Heinz Kamp , Horst-Dieter Höttges , Rudi Assauer and Per Röntgenved . So Rütten was drawn to the 2nd Bundesliga for SpVgg Fürth . At Fürth, Rütten quickly became a regular under coach Hans Cieslarczyk . Rütten stayed until 1981 and played continuously in the southern season of the 2nd Bundesliga. Then he switched back to the amateur field at FC Herzogenaurach , where he let his career end.
