Klaus Vitt
Klaus Vitt (* 1952 in Hagen ) is a former German ministerial official and State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI). From October 1, 2015 to April 30, 2020, he was State Secretary. He also held the office of Federal Government Commissioner for Information Technology , which Hans-Georg Engelke had taken over from Cornelia Rogall-Grothe a few weeks earlier .
Career
Vitt studied communications engineering at the Deutsche Bundespost University of Applied Sciences and completed his studies in mathematics and computer science at the University of Dortmund . He then worked as a specialist teacher for operating systems and programming languages at the computer manufacturer Sperry Univac and as a systems engineer at the software company Applied Data Research . He then worked for Bertelsmann AG for fourteen years , including as head of central data processing at Gruner + Jahr , as data center manager in central data processing and as international IT coordinator for the Bertelsmann Club .
After the second postal reform , Vitt moved to Deutsche Telekom AG . In 1996 he became managing director for information technology and customer care at T-Mobile Deutschland , took on the same function at the parent company in 1999 and held the position of director for information management and processes from 2001 to 2005.
From January 2006 to June 2014 Vitt was managing director of the central information technology of the Federal Employment Agency (BA) and head of its IT system house . In July 2014 he became a general representative for information technology and process management at the headquarters of the BA.
From October 1, 2015 to April 30, 2020, he was State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Federal Government Commissioner for Information Technology. His successor was Markus Richter .
In February 2016, Vitt advocated expanding data retention for usage data on the web.
