Klaus from Ilusta

Klaus von Ilusta (* 18th December 1934 in Berlin as Klaus Goehling ), married Conrad, also known as Babbel Plast is a German artist and bon vivant . His works are predominantly actions and installations in public space.

Life

Von Ilusta grew up in Berlin . During the war he was evacuated to Grünkrug , East Prussia, and later to Zipsendorf, Meuselwitz district , Thuringia. In 1950 he graduated from the Beucke School in Berlin. He then studied forest science for two years at the Technical University of Berlin and another two years at the agricultural school in Lüdenscheid. In Berlin he completed two and a half years of training with the police. After graduating, he studied architecture at the University of Art in Berlin, which he graduated as HBK architect. In England in 1965 he worked as a city planner at Greater London County Council and was a teacher at the College of Art and Crafts Kingston upon Hull. In 1967 he worked for Lucio Fontana in Milan for six months . At the end of 1968 he founded the artistic working group "Babbelplast", experience structures in the public sector. Babbelplast took to the streets with large pneumatic structures (Pneumanie®). He is thus the father of the so-called inflatables. Two years later he founded the group “Synthetisches Syndikat” and the group “space” (System for the production of air and communication environments). In 1973 he took part in the artists' conferences in Riccione and Kyoto.

From then on he lived and worked in Berlin until 1999 and then moved to Düsseldorf . Invitations are made from home and abroad. As a fashion model, he now also develops his own fashion.

  • 1973 Gold medal at the 5th Biennial for Social Design for the construction “Pneumanie” in Ljubljana

  • 1982: VDID award for handicapped accessible design
  • Honorary mercenary of the German Federal President Deutsche Künstlerhilfe
