Piano trio WoO 39 (Beethoven)

The piano trio WoO 39 in B flat major is a piano trio composition by Ludwig van Beethoven .

Origin and structure

The work was written on June 26, 1812. As Beethoven wrote, it was intended for “my little friend Maxe Brentano to encourage her to play piano”. Maximiliane Brentano was the then ten-year-old daughter of Beethoven's friend Antonie Brentano and later the dedicatee of Beethoven's piano sonata in E major op. 109. In 1824 she married Friedrich von Blittersdorf .

The piano trio WoO 39 consists of a single movement, an Allegretto. The implementation is, as in the later Piano Trio in B flat major , Op. 97, the "Archduke Trio" in which Medianttonart D major.

First printing

The piano trio WoO 39 was not published until 1830 by the Dunst publishing house in Frankfurt am Main.
