Piano trio WoO 38 (Beethoven)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The piano trio WoO 38 in E flat major is an early piano trio composition by Ludwig van Beethoven .

According to Anton Schindler , Beethoven's secretary and later biographer, Beethoven is said to have written this trio at the age of 15, i.e. around 1786. Stylistic reasons, however, suggest that it was made in the years 1790/1791.

The sentence names of the three sentences are:

  1. Allegro moderato
  2. Scherzo: Allegro ma non troppo
  3. Rondo: Allegretto

All three movements are in the basic key of E flat major.

Beethoven refrained from publishing this piano trio and giving it an opus number. He only considered his three Trios op. 1 to be good enough for publication with an opus number. The piano trio WoO38 was only released after Beethoven's death.
