The narrow-gauge railway Culmsee-Melno combined with their standard-gauge track, the former Bishop City Culmsee / Chełmża in the former Prussian province of West Prussia with the station Melno / Mełno at the railway Graudenz-Goßlershausen the Prussian Eastern Railway .
history
In "Culmerland" between the towns of Graudenz and Thorn on the Vistula, the state railway line Graudenz – Culmsee was opened in 1882 , but there was still a gap to the Thorn – Jablonowo main line further east (from 1903 Goßlershausen). This gap should be closed by a small train. But because the area belonged to three different counties, it made sense to found a stock company for this railway. On June 28, 1900, its founders included the Kingdom of Prussia and the Province of West Prussia, the districts of Briesen, Graudenz, Kulm and Thorn, and finally the East German Railway Company , which also ran the company until around 1920.
Just one year later, on September 30, 1901, the standard gauge small railway Culmsee – Melno was opened with a length of 45.5 kilometers. The center of operations was the Pfeilsdorf (pol. Płużnica ) station in the middle of the line, where the two trains were used, which served each section four times a day.
The vehicle inventory was given in 1914 as four steam locomotives, seven passenger and two pack / mail cars as well as 54 freight and 3 special cars.
After the end of the First World War, the Polish State Railways took over the management of the small railway. Even during the Second World War it remained in the state enterprise.
Passenger traffic was stopped in 1982, and the line was closed in 1991.
