The small shrub insect ( Yersinella raymondi , Syn .: Yersinella raymondii ) is a long- feeler insect from the subfamily of the Tettigoniinae within the superfamily of the leaf locust .

features

The small shrub cricket is similar in body and color to the dainty shrub cricket , but is more powerfully built and significantly smaller. Because of its small size of only 12 to 16 millimeters and the barely visible wings, it is often mistaken for a larva of another species of locust. Your abdomen is long and thick, the pronotum is flattened and elongated backwards. The lower legs of all pairs of legs have short, thin spines, whereas those of the front pairs of legs are longer. The basic color is gray-brown. A wide, dark gray or dark brown band runs over the sides of the body from the antennae over the thorax to the abdomen and its tip, although there it sometimes dissolves into small spots or becomes blurred. Shortly behind the eye, it is interrupted by a light slash. The upper side of the body is light gray or light brown in color and sharply demarcated from the dark band by two longitudinal lines. The pronotum lateral lobes are broadly whitish or yellowish edged. The legs are brownish dotted and have dark spots on the joints. The dark brown compound eyes have a dark point in the middle. The cerci of the male are slightly flattened and, in contrast to the dainty shrub cricket, do not have an internal tooth. The female has a clearly curved ovipositor .

Way of life and distribution

The shrub insect can be found on shrubs and also on low herbaceous plants. It lives in bushes, forest edges, and also open landscapes with a lot of vegetation. Its distribution area extends from southern France through Italy , Slovenia , Croatia , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Serbia and Montenegro , Albania and Macedonia to Greece . In the north it extends to the canton of Ticino in Switzerland and South Tyrol . An isolated occurrence can be found in Sardinia . It is quite common. It is absent in both Austria and Germany . The adults occur from July to September.

Systematics

The species first appeared in the literature in 1933 in the genus Yersinella . A common synonym that is still used today is Yersinella raymondii . Other synonyms are Thamnotrizon dorsatus and Rhacocleis dorsata .
