The small lake is a lake in the district of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte , within the municipality of Blankenhof in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

The small lake is about 310 meters long, 220 meters wide and at its deepest point about 2.7 meters deep. The lake was created by the glaciers of the Pomeranian stage of the Vistula Ice Age . It is embedded in the ground moraine west of the Tollensetal , which is 78.5 m above sea level at its highest point in the north . NHN , to the south 65.8 m above sea level. Reached NHN.

The bottom of the lake is extremely muddy and poor in oxygen, and has always been very polluted by the effects of pollutants in the agricultural areas from the northwest to the eastern area in front of the lake. In the past, bigger fish deaths occurred again and again, as in the 1970s, when agricultural aircraft did not switch off their fertilizer spreading equipment in time and many large carp perished as a result.

Very hot summers and long, hard winters with snow-covered ice surfaces also damaged the lake and its sensitive ecosystem due to the already mentioned low oxygen content of the water. However, there has been a steadily increasing improvement in water quality in recent years. Despite all the adverse facts, the lake has always been a good fishing water for years, the main fish species here are whitefish, pike, tench and occasional eels. The carp stocks have also recovered quite well. There was a breeding colony of Black Terns on the southern bank until the early 1990s , but this has now completely disappeared. The lake has a belt of pond roses and is mostly bordered by willows and alders.

The small lake is leased by the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Angler's Association, and there are several fishing jetties on its banks. The Bützow – Szczecin railway runs along the south bank .
