The small rison ( Galictis cuja ) is a species of mammal from the marten family . It is common in much of the southern half of South America.
features
The small grison is about the size and weight of a stone marten and is slightly smaller than the related large grison ( G. vittata ). It reaches a total length of about 44 to 68 centimeters and a tail length of 13.5 to 19.0 centimeters. The weight is around 1.2 to 2.5 kilograms.
The body is slim with short legs. The back is yellowish-brown, the lower part of the face below the forehead, the lower part of the neck and the belly are colored black. Between these two areas, a light line runs along the head and neck down to the shoulders.
distribution
The small rison is common in the southern half of South America. The distribution area includes the southeast of Peru , the west and south of Bolivia , central Chile , Paraguay , Uruguay , Argentina and regions in the southeast and south of Brazil . In the extreme south (southern Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego ) it is not to be found.
It occurs at altitudes of up to 4200 meters both in water-rich areas and in dry areas such as the Gran Chaco . He lives in areas with sparse vegetation as well as in forests, grasslands and also in the agricultural areas of the pampas .
Way of life
The small rison feeds on small mammals, birds and their eggs, lizards, amphibians and fruits.
