The erinaceus ( Erinaceus ) are a genus of the family of hedgehog (Erinaceidae). Apart from the two living species in Central Europe it includes Hedgehog and Northern White-breasted Hedgehog nor the in the Near East surviving Southern White-breasted Hedgehog , as well as in East Asia living Chinese hedgehog .

Small ear hedgehogs reach a head trunk length of 14 to 30 centimeters and a weight of 0.4 to 1.1 kilograms. Their body is covered with spines on the top, the underside is covered with yellow-brown fur.
Way of life
These animals live in sparse forests, in bushland, on meadows or in the vicinity of humans. They are nocturnal solitary animals that feed on worms, insects, and small vertebrates.

- Southern white-breasted hedgehog ( Erinaceus concolor )
- Northern white-breasted hedgehog ( Erinaceus roumanicus , formerly Erinaceus concolor roumanicus )
- Chinese hedgehog ( Erinaceus amurensis )
