Klemens Ullmann (born March 4, 1939 in Plauen ) is a German Roman Catholic clergyman.

Life

Klemens Ullmann first learned the trade of commercial advertising . In 1958 he joined the Norbertuswerk in Magdeburg , where he obtained the Abitur. In 1962 he began studying Catholic theology at the Erfurt seminary and received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Meissen on June 29, 1968 from Bishop Otto Spülbeck .

After three years of chaplaincy in Dresden-Neustadt , he was the personal secretary of Bishop Gerhard Schaffran for two years and then from 1973 to 1982 diocesan youth pastor of the diocese. In 1982 he became pastor in Großenhain and in 1985 also dean of the dean's office in Meißen.

In 1988 Ullmann became cathedral priest at the cathedral Ss. Trinity . During his term of office, which lasted until 2014, a number of significant events occurred that affected the court church and its pastor. This included the Peaceful Revolution in 1989 , when his chaplain at the time, Frank Richter, was one of the founders of the Group of 20 . Further events were the Catholic Day in Dresden in 1994, the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Hofkirche's consecration in 2001, the Elbe flood in 2002 and the beatification of Alois Andritzki in front of the Hofkirche on June 13, 2011. Ullmann dealt intensively with the history of his church, about which he also published. The faith courses he designed for adults had an effect beyond the boundaries of the cathedral parish.

In 1990 Bishop Joachim Reinelt appointed him to the cathedral chapter of St. Petri in Dresden. In 2013 he was elected dean of the cathedral . He resigned from this office on his 79th birthday on March 4, 2018.

Klemens Ullmann also appeared as a hymn poet in the field of the new spiritual song (NGL). He wrote tropical stanzas for the popular song Herr Your Love is Like Grass and Shore by Ernst Hansen , which were included in the songbook Poverello , which was published in the GDR and co-edited by Ullmann . In the same songbook, Ohr, who heard the call to Peter Janssens ' melody, is one of the few early NGLs with a Marian text. This song was included in various other song collections and in the Würzburg regional part of the old (No. 988) and the East German regional part of the new praise of God .
