Kleppen Island is a small island off the coast of the East Antarctic Kempland . In the northern part of Edward VIII Bay , it is located immediately southeast of Martin Island and around 6 km west of the Austnes Skerries .
Norwegian cartographers mapped them in 1946 using aerial photographs of the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 . They named it Kleppen ( Norwegian for lump ) on the assumption it was part of Martin Island. A team from the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions cleared up this mistake in the 1950s. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia gave the newly discovered island its current name in 1958.
