Topography of the via ferrata

The Torre Clampil and its subsidiary peak , the Winkel Tower ( 2040  m ; Italian: Torre Winkel ) form a foothill of the Rosskofel ( 2239  m , Italian: Monte Cavallo ) in the Carnic main ridge. From Austria it can be reached via Nassfeld Straße (B 90) and from Italy via Strada provinciale 110. Since it is located in a tourist area, it can be reached via easy hiking trails. The top station of the Millennium Express at 1909  m is also only a few minutes' walk from the via ferrata.

Via ferrata

The via ferrata, which has been accessible since summer 2007, leads in a direct line over around 180 meters in altitude through the north face of the Torre Clampil. While the entrance and the front wall are posted with levels of difficulty A to C, from a striking strip of grass in levels D and E through the cliff and a chimney to the exit. The climb is well secured and provided with numerous steel brackets and pins as climbing aids. Due to its exposure and height, the climb is one of the more difficult via ferratas in Carinthia and is the most difficult rated in the Nassfeld area. The via ferrata does not have an emergency exit, should be avoided in bad weather and not chosen as a descent variant.

The descent takes place via the partially secured west side to the Contin-Scharte, or via the Ostgrat-Klettersteig (B / C) of the angle tower back to the wall base.
