Kleztory is a Klezmer - and World Music - Ensemble , which was founded in 2000 and in Montreal in Canada is established. While remaining respectful of the rich legacy of klezmer, Kleztory takes the liberty of arranging parts of the traditional repertoire. This gives your music its own personal uniqueness and note. Kleztory is influenced by many sources of inspiration, including jazz , classical, gypsy jazz , country music , folk and blues . The ensemble received the Opus Prize in 2007 for the best jazz / world music album of the year in Québec for nomads and the Fürth Klezmer Prize at the 3rd International Jewish Music Festival in Amsterdam in 2012.

Members

The current members are Elvira Misbakhova ( violin ), Airat Ichmouratov ( clarinet , bass clarinet , Duclar), Mark Peetsma ( double bass ), Dany Nicolas ( guitar ) and Melanie Bergeron ( accordion ). Three of the original founding members remain in the group, as well as Melanie Bergeron, who replaces Henri Oppenheim (accordion), and Dany Nicolas, who replaces founding member Alain Legault. In addition, the former full-time member from 2013-2014 from Chișinău (Moldova) Alexandru Sura is now a regular tour guest.

history

Kleztory played many concerts in Montreal and around the world, including in Canada, the USA, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Romania, Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica and China. In 2012 Kleztory was selected as the only Canadian participant of the 3rd International Jewish Music Festival in Amsterdam and successfully won the Fürth Klezmer Prize, whereupon they were allowed to play at the Furth Klezmer Festival the following spring. In October 2015, Kleztory was the only Canadian band selected for the Folquebec sponsored concert at Womex in Budapest , Hungary . Kleztory has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra , Orchester Métropolitain , Orchester Symphonique de Québec, I Musici de Montréal , Les Violons du Roy, Brussels Chamber Orchestra and many more.

Studio recordings

Kleztory produced their first CD entitled Kleztory - Musique Klezmer in early 2001. A few years later they recorded a second CD in collaboration with the I Musici de Montréal chamber orchestra under the direction of Yuli Turovsky , which then became international under Chandos Records Label was marketed in spring 2004. In March 2007 a third CD was released with the title Nomade . This album earned them the 2007 Opus Prize for Best Jazz / World Music Album of the Year in Québec. In 2013 Kleztory released their new album Arrival , which was nominated as the best album of the year in the music category "Traditional" by the Association québécoise de l'industrie du disque, du spectacle et de la video (ADISQ) (together with their stage show).
