Klimt 1918 is an Italian alternative rock - band from Rome .

history

Klimt 1918 was founded in 1999 by the two brothers Marco and Paolo Soellner after their previous death metal band Another Day split up. Marco rediscovered his old love for bands like Bauhaus , The Cure and Joy Division and let them influence his songwriting . After the band was completed by Francesco Tumbarello on lead guitar and Davide Pesola on bass , the first demo album, Secession Makes Post-Modern Music , was recorded in 2000 , produced by Giuseppe Orlando, the drummer of the band Novembre . The demo got good reviews and Klimt in 1918 was signed to the Italian independent label My Kingdom Music. In 2003 the band released their debut album Undressed Momento . Francesco Tumbarello left the band during the recording. He has been replaced by Alessandro Pace, an old friend of the band who is well known in Rome's metal scene. Undressed Momento received good reviews. The sound was no longer as metal-heavy as on the previous one, but more melodic and emotional. In 2004 the band switched to the German label Prophecy Productions and began working on a new album. Dopoguerra was released in 2005. This album also received very good reviews and the band went on their first European tour. Parallel to Dogoguerra was also Undressed Momento reissued by Prophecy. Between September and October 2006, Alessandro Pace left Klimt again in 1918. In his place came Francesco Conte, who made his first live appearance with the band on October 21 at the 10th Anniversary Festival of Prophecy Productions.

Surname

The name "Klimt 1918" comes from the painter Gustav Klimt and the year of his death. According to Marco Soellner, the band sees parallels between their music and Klimt's art. The year 1918 marked the end of the First World War , that of the Belle Epoque and the definitive beginning of the 20th century. It is also possible that the name is a tribute to the band Bauhaus , which initially called itself “Bauhaus 1919”.
