The clinic Hohewarte Bayreuth (KHW) is a public emergency hospital and clinic for the care and rehabilitation of cross-section patients and traumatic brain injuries . According to the hospital plan of the Free State of Bavaria , the KHW is a III hospital in cooperation with the Bayreuth Clinic . Care level . history
On May 14, 1938, the foundation stone for the hospital was laid by the National Socialist People's Welfare Association . The construction time was about four years. Under the name Winifred Wagner Hospital, the hospital was only given its actual purpose as a children's and women's clinic for a short time on June 1, 1942, as the Luftwaffe set up a military hospital in the clinic as early as July 1942 . On May 9, 1945, one day after the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht , the US Army took over the hospital as the 120th Station Hospital. At the end of 1949 it was opened to German war invalids and in 1950 it was handed over to the Free State of Bavaria as a hospital for the disabled. After brief deliberations about the closure of the hospital, treatment of paraplegic patients began in 1957. A possible expansion to the university hospital in the 1960s was quickly shelved. Instead, the expansion of the center for spinal cord injuries was pushed ahead in the following years and additional specialist departments were set up. Since 1993 the hospital has been called "Krankenhaus Hohe Warte Bayreuth". In 1998 the clinic for traumatic brain injuries was opened, followed by the establishment of a stroke unit in 1999 . In 2000 a new functional building including an intensive care unit with 16 beds was completed. Three years later, the foundation stone was laid for an extension of the main building. In 2004 it was decided to merge the KHW with the Bayreuth Clinic as the Bayreuth Clinic. The carrier is now the hospital administration association Bayreuth as a corporation under public law . Members are the city of Bayreuth and the district of Bayreuth . The chairwoman is the Lord Mayor of Bayreuth, Brigitte Merk-Erbe .
