The knocker mill in Lengenfeld

The Klopfermühle in Lengenfeld is not only the last of the 45 water mills that were once driven by the small river Göltzsch , but also the last in the Saxon Vogtland .

history

In 1438 the Klopfermühle was first mentioned in a document as "well laid ... in the village zcu Lengefelt, gnant in the Hoyersmule, since itzund one uff sits, gnant Nickel Hoyer".

The mill and the property belonging to it remained in the possession of the Hoyer family until 1595 , which means that the name Hoyersmühle was also firmly imprinted in the following times. The Hoyersmühle was for a long time the largest taxpayer in Lengenfeld , a sign that it has represented a considerable economic factor over the centuries.

After the mill was no longer bound by noble landlords at the end of the 18th century, the millers were no longer just tenants , but owners of the mill.

In the course of industrialization after 1818, textile manufacturers from Lengenfeld set up spinning machines on a floor and operated them with water power.

In 1853 new buildings were built by the then owner Christian Wilhelm Lautenschläger, which still determine the external shape of the mill today. However, his plan for a steam mill was not implemented.

The Klopfermühle got its name from Christian Gotthilf Klopfer from Werdau , who took over the former Hoyersmühle in 1863. The mill is owned by the Klopfer family to this day and is the only remaining water-powered mill on the Göltzsch

Mill today

Today rye and wheat are ground in the 4 double roller mills of the Klopfermühle and delivered to regional bakeries . In a small natural food shop attached to the mill, own products and other natural products are sold.

In addition, the Klopfermühle operates a feed trade in which it has an extensive selection of animal feed. Guided tours of the mills are organized by appointment, and visitors can learn a lot about the history of the mill and the town in a small private museum .

Mill day

Every year on Whit Monday, over 1000 mills nationwide take part in the German Milling Day . The Klopfermühle has also been participating in this event since 1994 and opens its doors to visitors, who can get to know the diverse work of the millers here .
