The German Society for Milling Knowledge and Mill Conservation e. V. , DGM for short , is the umbrella organization for mill customers in Germany. The society, to which the DGM regional associations as well as local mill associations and mill friends belong, was founded on October 24, 1987 in Minden ( East Westphalia ) as a registered association and is based in Petershagen - Frille near Minden.

aims

The initiator of the establishment was Wilhelm Brepohl . According to the articles of association, its primary goals and tasks include the maintenance of windmills and water mills as well as research into the development of the mill industry . The DGM endeavors to make the importance of mills as technical cultural monuments clear, to convey their history to a broader public and to advocate the professional maintenance and use of historical mills as witnesses to the history of technology.

German mill day

The DGM has organized the German Mill Day (DMT) every year on Whit Monday since 1994 . Over 1000 participating windmills and water mills are open for tours nationwide.

The German Mill Day grew out of the Lower Saxony Mill Day and the District Mill Day on the Westphalian Mill Road .

periodical

The periodical Der Mühlstein , published for Lower Saxony and Bremen since 1985 and nationwide since 1988, is the official member magazine of the DGM. It appears four times a year.
