The Coupar Angus Abbey ( English : Coupar Angus Abbey ) is a former Cistercian monastery in Scotland . It is located at Coupar Angus in the central Scottish council area of Perth and Kinross .
history
The monastery was founded in 1162 by the Scottish King Malcolm IV on the old royal house of Coupar.
Coupar Angus Monastery was a subsidiary of Melrose Abbey , a subsidiary of Clairvaux Primary Abbey .
After the Scottish Reformation, the monastery was closed in 1559 and converted into a noble estate for James Elphinstone in 1606.
Buildings and plant
Only a few remains of the monastery have survived, such as parts of the gatehouse and stone fragments in the parish church.
