The developing village of Coupar Angus was located on a stream that flows into the Isla a few hundred meters north . This formed the border between the counties of Angus and Perthshire. Since the older part of the village was on the east bank, and thus belonged to Angus, the village got its current name. A customs office was set up there in 1702 for the movement of goods. Later it came completely to the county of Perthshire as a result of a border shift and finally to today's Council Area Perth and Kinross.
