Dietenborn Monastery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dietenborn Monastery was a Benedictine monastery from 1109 to 1556 , and then the Cistercian nuns from 1496 , in Dietenborn , district of Großberndten , town of Sondershausen , in Thuringia.

history

12 kilometers west of Sondershausen (between Großberndten and Kleinberndten ) the Benedictine monastery Reinhardsbrunn founded the daughter monastery Dietenborn in 1109, which was inhabited by Cistercian women (initially from the monastery Eldena ) from 1496 until its dissolution in 1556 . Today only ruins remain, as well as a mill building and the monastery pond. The fountain building "Bonifatiusborn" deserves special mention, which was provided with a bell tower (including bell) by the local monastery association founded in 2004, which reminds of the former monastery along with several information boards. Since then there have been sporadic sacred acts on site.
