Monastery Graurheindorf was a monastery of Cistercian nuns in Bonn district Graurheindorf .

history

The founding date of the Graurheindorf monastery is not known, the earliest documented mention was around 1230. In 1242, the Archbishop of Cologne, Konrad von Hochstaden, confirmed the patronage right to the monastery over the Graurheindorf parish church of St. Margaretha , which was also used as a monastery church. Due to its location at the gates of Bonn, the monastery was repeatedly exposed to the consequences of armed conflicts and looting in the course of its existence. The abbot of the monastery Heisterbach exercised the spiritual supervision . In 1778 a new monastery building was built, and in 1802 the convent was abolished in the course of secularization .

The church of St. Margaretha was laid down in 1806 and the parish church was established in the monastery building, which was only built in 1778. This was rebuilt in a neo-Gothic style by Vinzenz Statz in 1875 and a. extended by a tower. Preserved medieval buildings can be found in the old monastery wall directly on the Rhine.
