Humor Monastery ( Romanian Mănăstirea Humor ) is a Romanian Orthodox women's monastery and is located about 5 km north of the city of Gura Humorului in Romania . The monastery church "Adormirea Maicii Domnului" was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1993, together with other churches in Moldova .

history

In 1530, the Moldovan Chancellor Teodor Bubuiog had today's church built on the foundations of a monastery complex from 1415. The monastery church was one of the first painted churches in today's Romania. The frescoes are by the artist Toma von Suceava. One of the most famous works of art in the church is a picture of Stephen the Great . The square tower was built in 1641 under the rule of Vasile Lupu. The monastery houses a valuable collection of icons.
