Slatina Monastery

The monastery Slatina ( Mănăstirea Slatina ) is a Romanian Orthodox monastery in Suceava county in the region West of Moldova in Romania . It is located west of the village of Slatina on the Suha Mică stream .

history

The monastery was built between 1553 and 1564 on the basis of a donation from Prince Alexandru Lăpușneanu , who died here in 1568. A few years after his death, the monastery was sacked. The church was rebuilt. In the 16th and 17th centuries it played an important role as the burial place of the princes of Moldova. In the 1830s, the facility was redesigned and partially rebuilt. In addition to the historical structure, two church bells from this period have been preserved there.

It has been a protected architectural monument since 2004 (under the number SV-II-aA-05644).

Buildings and plant

The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord (Schimbarea la Față) is a three- icon complex, a closed vestibule is presented to it, in front of which the exonarthex is located. The naos has a drum dome over Moldavian vaults. The former princely house is influenced by the Renaissance architecture. The facility is surrounded by a wall.

The monastery garden is also remarkable.

Furnishing

The monastery has no exterior frescoes; therefore the deep shingle roofs of the frescoed Vltava monasteries were dispensed with.

The painting of the church from the 16th century suffered fire damage in 1821. The repainting took place in 1828 in the neo-Byzantine style.

A small museum in the Princely House belongs to the monastery.
