Heather McDermid

Heather Jane McDermid (born October 17, 1968 in Calgary ) is a former Canadian rower who won two Olympic medals.

Athletic career

Heather McDermid began her athletic career as a track and field athlete, but had to retire after an ankle injury. She then began rowing at the Calgary Rowing Club . As early as 1994 she trained with the Canadian national team. She made her international debut at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. The Canadian eighth with Heather McDermid, Tosha Tsang , Maria Maunder , Alison Korn , Emma Robinson , Anna van der Kamp , Jessica Monroe , Theresa Luke and helmsman Lesley Thompson won the silver medal behind the Romanians.

After that, Heather McDermid only appeared again internationally at the 1999 World Cup in Vienna. In Vienna she took fourth place with Kubet Weston in the two without a helmsman , with the Canadian eighth both took third place behind the Romanians and Belarusians. At the World Cup regatta in Lucerne, the Romanians won again, behind the Dutch women, the Canadian eighth came third. The 1999 World Championships were held in St. Catharines , Canada . In the eighth, the Romanians won in front of the US boat, the Canadian crew with Buffy-Lynne Alexander , Laryssa Biesenthal , Alison Korn, Theresa Luke, Heather McDermid, Emma Robinson, Dorota Urbaniak , Kubet Weston and Lesley Thompson won the bronze medal.

In the 2000 World Cup, the Canadian eighth finished sixth in Vienna, and in Lucerne the team came second behind the Romanians. At the Olympic Games in Sydney, the Dutch women won in the first heat before the Canadian eighth, in the hope run the US eighth won ahead of the Canadians. In the final, the Romanians continued their winning streak, behind the Dutch, the Canadian boat won the bronze medal with the cast of Heather McDermid, Heather Davis , Dorota Urbaniak, Theresa Luke, Emma Robinson, Alison Korn, Laryssa Biesenthal, Buffy-Lynne Alexander and Lesley Thompson.
