Laryssa Biesenthal

Laryssa Biesenthal (born June 22, 1971 in Walkerton , Ontario ) is a former Canadian rower . In 1996 she won the Olympic bronze medal in the double quad and in 2000 the Olympic bronze medal in the eight .

Athletic career

Laryssa Biesenthal, who is 1.73 m tall, began rowing at the University of British Columbia in 1990 . It was not until 1995 that she first took part in world championships . In Tampere, together with Kathleen Heddle , Marnie McBean and Diane O'Grady, she finished second in the four-four behind the German boat and two tenths of a second ahead of the Dutch crew. With the same line-up, the Canadian quadruple won bronze at the 1996 Olympic Games behind the German quadruple and the Ukrainians.

After the Olympic Games in 1996, Laryssa Biesenthal moved to the Canadian eighth, with which she reached the goal at the 1997 World Championships as second behind the Romanians. At the 1998 World Championships, the Romanians won before the US eighth, the Canadians received the bronze medal. The 1999 World Championships took place in front of a home crowd in St. Catharines , the Canadian eighth with Biesenthal again took third place behind the Romanians and the US rowers. The Canadian eighth also won the bronze medal at the 2000 Olympic Games , while silver went to the Dutch crew behind the Romanian boat.
