Kniebis Monastery
The Kniebis monastery in Kniebis in the Black Forest existed from 1277 to 1535. First a community of Franciscan Terziaren , in 1341 it became a priory of the Benedictine monastery Alpirsbach .
The monastery emerged from a chapel first mentioned in 1267 at the pass of the trade route between Ulm and Strasbourg . The chapel, cared for by Franciscans, was given to the convent by Heinrich von Fürstenberg in 1278 . In 1341 the convent submitted to the Alpirsbach monastery. Fires destroyed the monastery in 1463 and 1513. Duke Ulrich von Württemberg abolished the monastery during the Reformation .
