Sabahat Akkiraz (born February 6, 1955 in the village of Yaylacik in Kangal / Sivas ) is a Turkish singer and member of parliament for the Republican People's Party (CHP). Akkiraz belongs to the Alevis religion . Her real family name is Akkiray.

Life

Sabahat Akkiraz grew up in the village of Yaylacik / Yortan in Kangal. The family later moved to Germany, where Sabahat Akkiraz passed her secondary school leaving certificate . Akkiraz released her first record when she was 13 years old. In 1982 her first album Gül Yüzlü Sevdigim was released . Then she moved back to Turkey.

Sabahat Akkiraz gave concerts all over Europe such as B. in London at the Jazz Festival or the Lyon Dogu Festival. In 1999 she represented Turkey in the Queen Elizabeth Hall in the Women of Tradition project . She was the first Turkish Alevi singer to appear on the stage of the Theater de la Ville . In 2001 she completed a tour in the Netherlands. In 2004 she gave two concerts in São Paulo . Sabahat Akkiraz worked with Arif Sağ , Musa Eroğlu , Muhlis Akarsu , Yavuz Top, Belkis Akkale , Mercan Dede and Erdal Erzincan . Sabahat Akkiraz's goal is to bring Alevi music and culture closer to the world.

In 2010 she joined the Republican People's Party and ran for parliamentary elections on June 12, 2011 for Istanbul Province and was elected to parliament. On the occasion of the protests in Turkey in 2013 , she condoned the relatives of the first death victim and described them as a martyr.
