The monastery of La Charité ( Caritas ) in today's region Burgundy was originally a nuns convent and later a Cistercian abbey in the town of Lézinnes in the Yonne department in France , about twelve kilometers southeast of the city of Tonnerre , on the banks of the Armançon . It should not be confused with the monastery La Charité (Franche-Comté) .
history
The monastery was founded in 1184 for nuns from Langres and was not taken over by the Cistercian order until 1432 , who established a monks' abbey there. The monastery was destroyed by the Huguenots in 1568 , but continued to exist until the French Revolution . In 1768 there were only two monks left.
Buildings and plant
With the exception of a corner tower and an underground cellar, there are no remains of the monastery buildings .
