Lantao Monastery
Lantao Monastery (Latin: Monasterium Beatae Mariae de Laetitia ) has been a Chinese Trappist monastery since 1927 , first built near Zhengding , then in Sichuan , from 1950 on Lantau Island , diocese of Hong Kong .
history
The Monastery Consolation in 1927 founded the "Mary Joy" (daughter Monastery Notre-Dame de Liesse / Our Lady of Joy ) in the province of Zhili , the 1941 Priorat was raised. In 1937 the monastery was desecrated by the Japanese during the Second Sino-Japanese War ; there were murders and arrests. The monastery moved to Sichuan (Liesse 2), from 1950 (officially 1955) to Lantau Island near Hong Kong , accessible only from Peng Chau Island . There it was elevated to an abbey in 1999 .
