action

In a remote Icelandic valley there is nothing to do but watch the horses, the neighbors and the neighbors' horses with binoculars. Undisturbed, the stallions and mares do what nobody in the valley dares to talk about: love.

But even among the valley residents, love is emerging. For example Kolbeinn and Solveig, whose attempts at rapprochement are followed with interest by the neighbors. Vernhardur, who has a weakness for whiskey, meets the sailor Gengis on the Russian fishing cutter. There is mostly disagreement between Grimur and Egill about the riding routes; while Grimur prefers the classic routes, Egill prefers the ride through rough terrain. Jóhanna, on the other hand, does not let anything get over her stallion Raudka, but one day they run into an injured man while riding. The religious Juan Camillo searches for God on a plateau.

Above all, the people in the valley share their love for horses and that sooner or later they will find each other.

criticism

At Rotten Tomatoes , all 25 reviews so far are positive; the average rating is 7.7 / 10. The critical consensus states: “Well-made and overwhelming original; Of people and horses is an intelligent, unfathomable and breathtaking jewel just like the horses that give it the title. "

The film service judges that "while people keep their distance and speak little to one another, closeness and communication primarily take place in interaction with horses". The film, told “with dry humor, episodically” is “full of absurd moments about the interplay between island, inhabitants and animals”.
