The Marienthal Monastery is a former monastery on the Eisch in Marienthal , municipality of Helperknapp , which was founded in the 13th century by Dominican women from Strasbourg .

At the beginning it was a poor monastery, but that changed when Yolanda von Vianden became the monastery prioress in 1258 . Marienthal experienced an upswing through various donations from the Counts of Vianden to Luxembourg . Yolanda set up a library and promoted the economic and cultural life of the monastery. The five-aisled Gothic monastery church, which is 50 meters long and 35 meters wide, was built under their leadership, but it no longer exists today. After her death in 1283, Yolanda was buried behind the church's altar.

After Luxembourg fell to Austria in the 18th century , Joseph II had all contemplative orders lifted in 1783, including the Marienthal monastery.

In 1890 the White Fathers bought the dilapidated monastery building, part of which also went to the Sisters of Doctrine Chrétienne . During the Second World War, the building provided initial accommodation for many refugees. The White Fathers left Marienthal in 1974.

Today the Service National de la Jeunesse (SNJ) runs a youth education center here.
