Ospedale del Piave Monastery (Santa Maria dell'Ospedale del Piave) was a Cistercian monk abbey in what is now Veneto , Italy . It was in Lovadina near Spresiano near Treviso in the province of the same name .
history
The hospital, built for pilgrims to the Holy Land around the year 1000, suffered a decline in the 13th century and was rebuilt by Pope Gregory IX. Affiliated to the Cistercian Order in 1229 and subordinated to the Follina Monastery . So it belonged to the filiation of the Clairvaux Primary Abbey . The general chapter then approved “pro reverentia domini papae” in 1230 for admission to the Cistercian order. There is little news about the monastery. 1256 an abbot is named Albert. In 1363 a flood of the Piave river made the monastery an island. This was then moved to the center of Lovadina in 1459. Pope Paul II gave the monastery in coming . In 1490 his properties were merged with those of the Santa Maria degli Angeli monastery in Murano . The monastery probably existed until the 18th century.
