Phuoc-Son Monastery

Phuoc-Son Monastery (Latin Abbatia BMV de Phước Sơn ) is a Vietnamese Cistercian abbey in Phước Hoà, Tân Thành District, Province Bà Rịa – V –ng Tàu , Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City .

history

Phuoc-Son Monastery was founded in 1918 by Henri Benoît Thuan Denis in Phuóc-Son ("Mountains of Happiness"), province of Quảng Trị , north of the Ben Hai River, in what was then Annam (northern Cochinchina ), Archdiocese of Hu und March 1935, according to his wish (posthumously) incorporated into the Cistercian Order of the General Observance. In 1945 the monastery moved to Thu Dúc, Thủ Đức District, Ho Chi Minh City , before the communists seized power. In 1978 the approximately one hundred monks were driven out by the government. They founded new monasteries in various places in Vietnam, the motherhouse in Phước Hoà, Tân Thành District, Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu province , not far from Vũng Tau (with around 150 monks in 2015). The current abbot of Phuoc-Son is Dom Jean de la Croix Lê Văn Đoàn OCist. He is also abbot president of the Cistercian Congregation of the Holy Family .
